Karine Hilaire

Karine’s background in fashion and textiles translates into a love for pattern and strikingly textured ceramic pieces.

Artist’s statement

Karine began her journey in the Parisian fashion houses and later consolidated her passion for arts and crafts through a French artisan diploma in ceramics. She then co-founded a successful ceramics studio in Paris and later moved to London to dedicate her time to her own work. Karine is currently based in Dulwich at the newly launched Grove Vale Ceramics collective.

The forms she creates are functional vessels, which often take on a sculptural nature. She treats the ceramic vessel as a canvas engaging both the internal and external surfaces to hold and direct her patterns in an intuitive and spontaneous way. Her pieces are graphic and sensual, creating an eclectic mix of unique motifs and organic forms.
